I've had cheap machines arrive with RAM good enough that memtest86
passed them but bad enough that a GCC bootstrap-and-test (my preferred
machine torture mechanism) segfaulted or MCEd more often than not.
(This was not power or CPU cooling: replacing the RAM fixed the
problem.)
