IIRC you have to burn the CD as an ISO image for it to be 
bootable.  It is insufficient to simply burn the iso file
to CD.  

You don't say what you used to create the CD 
wodim or a GUI interface like K3b?

If you have any other known bootable CD try that with your
machine setup to confirm the machine will boot from CD.
