I had heard/read the same so I don't think it is just hear-say; however -
I found that when I tried forging a /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually in
Ubuntu 9.10 (and also 9.04 iirc) it did not seem to make any
difference. This was in order to try to get a touch screen working on
a laptop, btw, not a dual monitor setup. But same issue.
