For me, I'd say the Nokia N900. Yes, Maemo's been discontinued, but
a) MeeGo is just around the corner, and b) you can dual boot it to
run Android anyway. That way, you get a proper phone with a real
Linux distribution (complete with a root shell -- no jailbreaking
needed), and an upgrade path if it turns out you'd rather have gone
with Android. The iphone is made by Apple, and so is a complete
non-starter for me. YMMV.
