[Gllug] Any open weather sources in the UK?

Is there an "openstreetmap" equivalent for weather data in the UK?

In the US all weather data produced by the US government is available
in the public domain, and there are citizen's weather sources such as
the Citizen Weather Observer Program.  It seems the UK is far
different with the Met Office charging an arm and a leg for access to
current weather data.

(I'm not necessarily talking about forecasts, but that would be
interesting too)
