I can't help you directly, but would suggest that you look at using 'screen'

Also consider running processes which should not die when you log out
under 'nohup'

I actually am a fan of NX - you can be workign during the day, and
simply close and disconnect from your NX client.
Later in the evening you can VPN in to your corporate LAN and
reconnect to the NX session. Also applies if your conenction frops
for any reason - just start it again and you have the same desktop
setup running as if you had never gone away.
