I have never had any problems with FileVault but a friend of mine who
runs an independent Mac shop has been asked to repair broken FileVault
volumes so many times that he refuses to use it and has gone with my
recommendation to use TrueCrypt instead.

I also understand that FileVault is (a lot) easier to crack than Truecrypt.
