A client has an old CentOS 4, 3-disk LSI MegaRAID system running on 3 x 150GB WD Raptor 10,000rpm disks. They're a few years old and one has now blown but the original model:
WD1500ADFD
... has been superceded by the "Veloci Raptor" WD1500HLFS which is a similar 10,000rpm/SATA II/16Mb cache disk but with an improved seek time of 4.2ms over the ADFD's 4.6ms.
The new model also has improved firmware so am I correct in assuming replacing the dead disk with the new model is a non-starter?
