Maybe so, but in this instance, it really is that simple.

Apart from Mozilla's braindead assumptions, of course, which break
things in heterogeneous environments. Try running an NFS mounted home
directory on a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit machines some time, and watch
your Firefox plugins all fail. Sigh.
