[Gllug] Problems rebuilding a RAID5 array after a failed disc on Centos 5

Normally you need to do two operations.

First you need to "degrade" the array, ie tell the hardware that the failing
disk is no longer present after which it is safe to remove it. Make sure you
have the right disk. then add the replacement to the array at which time it
should rebuild the partity. 

The other way to do it is to had a "hot spare", however some controllers
will not use the hot spare unless there is complete drive failure, and also
will not copy the "good bits" from the drive and which those you will have
to still degrate the failing disk, which should cause the hotspare to be
used, remove the old disk then add the replacement to the array at which
time it should rebuild the partity.
