Blimey - I was earning £8k a year straight after university practically
running a local ISP by myself up in Norwich. It was only until I got to
London when I started earning £21k and it hovered around £21-25 for a
good number of years before I moved into post-production. These days
working away from London sees me on a much higher figure.

£12k is quite an outrageous sum. It implies that whoever takes the role
is likely to be living with their parent(s) because after deducting
travelling costs from that, you're not going to have much left for
food/rent/whatever. It was bad enough trying to repay a mortgage from
£8k at the time when I first started working, but at least in Norwich I
had no travelling expenses to speak of.
