That used to be the case, but it's no longer strictly true. Take a look at
http://www.libimobiledevice.org/ - offers very good support for the latest
Apple "iOS" devices, including the iPod Touch 4G. Of course, if the OP has
a new Nano or Shuffle, they may be out of luck...
