There are some companies selling an `app' for jailbreaking iPod/iPhone,
but it seems they sell you freeware that you could've downloaded
from the creator's site after a bit of digging. So be sure to read up
some of the
how-tos if you go down this route.

You might want to look at RockBox:

Be advised that either approach is going to void your warranty. If you take the
device back to Apple, they might even try to suggest that you've done something
illegal.
