[Gllug] Relationships... (between OpSys)

Wish to understand the similarities, differences, and 'gotchas' between 
(Gnu/)Linux, Unix, and BSD(s). Please would you recommend some 'homework 
reading'...

For example:
- have been given a (how to use) Unix book, how much will be (not) 
applicable to my CentOS/Fedora/RedHat cmdLNs?
- with (for example) FreeNAS and various firewalls 'recommending' the 
use of one of the BSDs, how much would I have to learn/adapt in order to 
set-up that OpSys compared with my usual Linux?
- application software (in)compatibilities/limitations beyond the 
installer technology or standard layout of directories, eg understanding 
of /srv ... ?
- aspects I haven't even realised yet...
