The internal batteries have one advantage; they can be a lot thinner
than anything which runs off an AAA, because li-ion batteries have a
much higher energy density than AAA's. Of course they also suffer
internal oxidation and pack up in a few years, but to be honest portable
hardware that you carry around with you everywhere tends to pack up in a
few years anyway. These things aren't made of iron.
