[Gllug] Disk performance

Has the system always suffered in this way? If not, fiddling with /sys/*
isn't likely to be the answer.

What's the underlying disk subsystem (RAID, disk type)? What's the
connectivity to the disks (NAS, SAS, NFS, SCSI, etc)?
