Hi Diana,

It is unlikely that the syslog is going anywhere else (although not
impossible). Personally, I have always seen it go to either
/var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog.

Lets try this to confirm the location of the your syslog file:

Make sure you are root. 'whoami' must say: root

cat /var/log/syslog
cat /var/log/messages
