I bought the Brother MFC5460CN some 4 years ago and used it quite happily under CentOS5.
To do so I needed to install a few RPMs:
brmfcfaxcups-1.0.0-1.i386.rpm brmfcfaxlpd-1.0.0-1.i386.rpm brscan2-0.2.4-0.x86_64.rpm
brscan-skey-0.2.1-1.x86_64.rpm mfc5460cncupswrapper-1.0.1-1.i386.rpm mfc5460cnlpr-1.0.1-1.i386.rpm
Most won't install, complaining:
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0) is needed by brmfcfaxlpd-1.0.0-1.i386
So: they need to be rebuilt for CentOS6.
These, updated, RPMs do install:
brscan-skey-0.2.4-0.x86_64.rpm brscan2-0.2.5-1.x86_64.rpm

If I run xsane it looks for scanners and then complains:
Failed to open device 'brother2:bus2;dev1': invalid argument
The device is printer/scanner/fax/photocopier.
I know that it is plugged in as lsusb tells me:
Bus 008 Device 003: ID 04f9:01b7 Brother Industries, Ltd MFC-5460CN Remote Setup Port
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what to do ? I have written to Brother via
a web form.
