I've been rattling on about NUMA machines this morning.
It is worth noting that many modern workstations and servers are NUMA architecture these days - we commonly have multicore, multisocket nodes
which have RAM banks associated with a particular processor.
If you haven't already done it, it is well worth installing the numactl and libnuma packages and using numactl -hardware
to show the layout of your server in NUMA terms.
