There is Edubuntu.

I found "gcompris" as a standalone app was enough for preschool/primary
school kids.  So installing that on Raspbian is probably the easiest
thing to do.

Actually I'll try that myself on a Raspberry Pi I've been lent now
you've reminded me.  RaspBMC wasn't really as good as I'd hoped.
