It really depends what you mean by "explore". You can use something like
Astro File Manager to explore the filesystem. If you want to explore the
APIs available I would have a look at the SDK. If you want to have better
control over the OS then rooting the device is probably the way to go but
does introduce security risks.

Lots of ways to explore ;)
