Been there, tried that, got no disk, but I can give you the T-shirt. People
don't have ancient diks lying around, not the one you need anyway.

Get that Google search box working for you,

And don't expect it to be cheap, it will cost you as much as a new disk,
but you are paying for keeping those mementos that will otherwise be lost
(that is how I convinced myself when paying a guy in Germany for an old
16GB disk :-(  ).

If the mementos had been too important (a wedding video for which no copies
exist for example) I would have paid an specialist to do the data recovery.
Better chances of success and life is too short trying to fix an old hard
disk.
