[GLLUG] Bash scripting problem

Dear list,

I have many large plain text files, of OCR'd text, that I want to 
correct automatically, using a bash script.

Whilst I'm making progress with this, using sed, I'm not sure what to do 
when the original and replacement text contains spaces. 'read' it 
appears takes spaces as a delimiter.

What would be the best way to pass along to sed two strings like
"An ad to","An act to" ?

(Bash newbie, apologies if I've overlooked something really obvious.)
