Do you any citations for ubuntu "dropping support for the Desktop"?  I
know that they do not ship 32-bit ISOs of ubuntu-17.10 and are dropping
unity in favour of gnome (a welcome decision in my view which should
improve their position in the community) but I have not read that they
are dropping the desktop.  That would be mad.
