But it still doesn't let you move filesystems that aren't on LVM
in to LVM. I don't understand why you keep thinking that LVM lets
you do this. My very first reply to you pointed out this would be an
issue for you!
Personally I do not like to do redundancy at the LVM level. The main
reason I use RAID is to avoid the system becoming unavailable (not
booting fully) when a storage device dies. It used to be the case
that an LVM Volume Group would not activate if any PVs were missing,
so if a device failed and you rebooted the system wouldn't come up
without manual intervention. They did fix that after a few years
(initramfs is now willing to activate degraded VGs):

So I guess my main problem with it is no longer relevant, but still,
I just prefer redundancy being provided by mdadm.
