Yep, Happy Christmas + New Year,
For anyone whos Christmas isn't white enough, or if you've had enough of
your relations :o) , you might be interested in this Linux job, ever so
slightly "down south" as it were:
http://www.antarctica.ac.uk/Employment/vacancies/job.php?id=273
Accommodation provided:
http://www.antarctica.ac.uk/Living_and_Working/Stations/Halley/
Reading the weblogs, highlights include 105 days a year of pure darkness
and outdoor barbecues at -40.
Pay isn't great, 15k but there's a 2k bonus when on site and of course,
there's no accommodation or food bills, so with some rough back of a fag
packet estimation it works out to be worth about 20-21k a year.
"Qualifications: Essential to this role is experience of the Linux
operating system. Graduates in a numerate discipline with experience in
some or all of the following would be most suitable: Computing (C, Perl,
HTML/CGI), data management, electronics, analysis and visualisation,
atmospheric or space science. "
Seeing as the vacancy has been viewed over 3100 times, expect some
rather fierce competition.
Hope it's of interest to someone, see you all next year.
Guy
