Hi Mick
I have now had a chance to try your suggestions, I loved the F key functions,
by the way,  I have never tried them before, anyway the main thing I noticed
apart from the X window, is the battery applet, I will try switching it
of and see what happens, and post the result.

It worked! I switched of the battery applet, clicked on logout, and the
logout applet came up immediately, thank you very much for your help.
