Does SuSE (I've never used it) not have an upgrade path? Could you not
go to a newer version of SuSE whilst keeping your data?

I use Debian on all my servers, and Ubuntu on the desktop. It's Debian
based, and nice and easy to use. My wife uses it and she's a
definately non-techy.
