Hi All,

It seems that we missed the opportunity for an April meeting - sorry I
didn't reply to your message Glyn - I've been snowed under with work and
couldn't make the first three weeks of this month. Hopefully we can
manage a curry in June...

In the meantime, I've been talking to Oliver Gorwits from Oxford Uni
(those who've spent time in the IRC channel might know him as
"ollie") about coming to give a talk on the 25th of May, and he's very
kindly offered to present the following:

Herding Cats - Networks and Infrastructure the Oxford Way
Wed 25th May, from 7pm at Bishops Cleeve Library
			- see website for map
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a bit complicated here - there's the University, and the Colleges,
and several hundred independently-minded IT staff! Somehow we manage to
deliver a multi-gigabit network with a combination of centralised and
federated services. I'll try to show you what we do centrally in Oxford,
including the backbone network, email, DNS & DHCP, remote access and
single sign-on, as well as what we _don't_ do. If you'd like to know how
we've solved any particular problem please post a reply so that I can do
any necessary research.

Oliver is a member of the Oxford University Computing Services Network
Infrastructure Group. He specialises in Linux and Perl programming, and
network appliance management. Oliver divides his time between
maintenance of the University backbone network and wireless networks,
and assisting with hostmaster and postmaster duties.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

We should be in for another entertaining evening, and I hope that
lots of you can make it.

Guy - any chance that we could borrow your projector again?
Paul - could you arrange to borrow the projector screen again?
Francis - can we get these details up on the website?
Oliver - I hope you managed to subscribe to the list - welcome!
