Hello Paul,

I am sorry to hear that Mepis did such a mess on your computer. Yes,
it is true, sometimes you take another distribution and even it is
always Linux behind, they work in so different ways. I started a
couple of years ago with Knoppix and it was great. Then a newer
version suddenly did not work anymore like the ISDN support I used at
that time. Today the newest Knoppix cannot find a proper resolution
for my monitor and so on. But Mepis did it with little problems. What
I like with Mepis is to have a frontend for the monitor settings and
the samba server. And it worked immediatily with my network. That was
really great. USB or hotplugging did not work at first. You have to
edit the fstab and then you are fine with it.

However, in german is a saying about Linux: "Linux has lots of
friends, but Linux don't like all of them..." :-) . So sometimes Linux
don't like me too and I spend a lot of time to solve problems. It is a
hobby for me and I am not shure wheather I would like to be an
professional administrator for linux systems.

Regards
Christian
