[Gloucs] Re: 'home' users of Linux: sources of help

Alternatively I would suggest installing Fedora Core 5, it's a massive
jump ahead from 3 on the desktop front. Linux User and Developer are
bunging it on their DVD this month and you can also get a "special" mag
in WH Smiths that comes with a bunch of tutorials.

I'm running FC5 as my main OS and was impressed to find EVERYTHING
worked out of the box, my iPod syncs with Amarok, I can play all video
formats with mplayer. The only thing i'm struggling with is getting my
bluetooth keyboard n mouse running in proper bluetooth mode, a problem
not helped by the fact I dont have a spare keyboard which means if i get
the config wrong I have to power down totally to get control back (which
as you can imagine makes it less than appealing to attempt repeatedly).

To be honest whilst Fedora can be a bit bloated and isn't as hardcore as
say Gentoo, installing it is a doddle, it has good package support and
you can quite easily get a working desktop up and running in about 30
mins replacing pretty much all functionality you would expect from an MS
desktop (which to be controversial ain't a bad model to work from)
