Hi John. Also hi to Max too.

Thanks for joining the GLUG mailing list.

At the moment, I'm sad to report that we are a fairly dormant LUG.
However, I think most of the 'regulars' would like to change that. I've
kinda (self promotion) taken on the social/diary secretary role but
thanks to moving house, holidays and being sans broadband I haven't done
much in the last two months. I lie a little. I was planning to do a talk
on small distros and USB booting and went as far as buying a 2GB USB pen
drive only to discover my 3yr old laptop doesn't support USB booting.

Anyway, a while back 'we' thought alternate formal and informal meetings
would be a good idea. I reckon we should aim for a formal this month,
informal next, formal in November leaving us ripe for an informal GLUG
Christmas bash (or Winterval should the GLUG prefer). What we need is a
few volunteers to do 30 mins talks on anything Linux, Open Source or
just interesting technology. If you (anyone on the list) are willing to
give it a go, please drop me an email ASAP so I can arrange a location, etc.

For a future GLUG meeting I've met and a chap who works for a training
company who teaches UNIX and networking (among other things), is keen on
Linux and is willing to do a talk for the GLUG. However, that is a few
months off.

We'll see what this thread produces but if its little, I'll return with
another request for 'formal' talk speakers.
