I installed the flashblock plugin for firefox (another suggestion) and 
things are all peachy now. OK, so the rendering of the flash over the 
website rather than below may be a firefox bug,  but is certainly shows 
a lack of testing by SE.

I'll send in another complaint mentioning many of the points raised 
here. I'll keep you posted.

P.S. And for the guy that emailed me to say it worked fine in Windows
