[Gloucs] Remote control

Using Remote Desktop Protocol with XP Pro will work. However with XP
there is a restriction of only one console. So if you log in using your
fil's credentials then you will take control of his console session and
he will cease to have a view of what you are doing. If you use your own
credentials then this will log out his session and load a profile for
you and this may defeat the object. If you want to avoid the latter and
allow him to see what you are doing, if say you are showing him
something, then stick with VNC. If you do use RDP then you don't
necessarily need to use any tunnel as RDP is fully encrypted.

Hello Paul,
Firstly thank you for your kind comments about my talk:-)
Two options that might work. If the XP box is XP pro then you can use
remote desktop (enable it via control panel -> system -> remote tab). If
not then VNC.
Remote desktop gives better performance but VNC can work on XP home.
However what ever you decide, being over the Internet, before you do
anything like that it is best to set up some sort of encrypted secure
tunnel/VPN on the ADSL routers (unless you have a Linux box at the other
end - in which case you can use ssh). This tunnel may be the tricky bit
depending upon the hardware involved.
Hope this helps.
Tony.
