That is what I feared.

Is there no way to use YouTube on Debian without compromising my 
principles ?  I do not use proprietary, closed source software.

I gather that "gnash" is unable to meet the video requirements.
Perhaps there are hackers out there who can deal with this.
Sadly, I cannot.

There are many Youtube contributions which I can use which I suppose do 
not use flash. They are usually not the ones of interest to my son !
