[Gloucs] touchfreeze

I would like to disable the touchpad on my laptop whilst typing text.

A few years ago this worked fine, but now I find that neither of my laptops (ASUS running
Debian nor Dell running LinuxMint) ,  provide  touchfreeze.

Has touchfreeze been scrapped, or superceded ?
 
Currently an external keyboard (away from the touchpad)  seems to be the best solution.
