[HLUG] Debian - getting NIC working

Hi,
I have a Dell Optiplex GX 270 with an Intel NIC. Debian won't get the IP
from the DHCP server during install, but it doesn't give the usual error
about missing Ethernet controller. I give it an address/subnet/gateway/DNS,
and everything goes through fine.
However, on installation, I can't access services I start remotely, and I
can't ping any address from the box. Ifconfig shows eth0 as being up, and
route shows the default routes fine as I would expect, however, no
connectivity!
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
Andrew.
