hi tim,

has that monitor dried out yet? i hope it's not knackered.

you mentioned that you wanted to change the default boot on your
machine to windows. the file you need to change is
/boot/grub/menu.lst
the first step is backing up this file in case it all goes
pear-shaped. open up a terminal and back it up with this command...

sudo cp /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/menu.lst.old

sudo gives you temporary root priviledges and cp is the copy command.
you can now restore the original file at any time by using this
command....

sudo cp /boot/grub/menu.lst.old /boot/grub/menu.lst

now that you have a backup you can edit the file. my preference would
be to use vim, a command line editor, but it's not an easy tool to
use. i've got a few easier suggestions.

1. bring your pc to the next meeting and one of us can walk you through it.

2. you could paste the contents of the file into an email and one of
us could edit it for you and post it back on the board.

2. you could edit it using the gui. you need root priveleges for this
and an easy way to do this is to open up the file browser as root from
the command line, like so...

sudo nautilus

hope this helps
