Have you seen this  http://www.go-opensource.org/go_open/news/download_go_open/

It is a site in S Africa that is a spin off from a TV series.   You can download 13 1/2 hour videos of the TV series or using the links in the box at the top right, read them instead.

The thing being, that they have, amongst other things, set up low cost computer suites etc. in schools using Linux and basic equipment.  Might be of interest.

  I am v interested in lightweight linux for using on older, low-spec
  hardware.

  However lightweight linux would be good for users in
  Tanzania who use secondhand computers from donors in Europe.
