[HLUG] starting esd

hello,

i've got my pc at work, it's sat in the corner without a monitor,
keyboard or mouse attached to it. i've been sshing into it and
downloaded software without any problems, but when i tried to play
music i got this error message.....

Error: Cannot open device esd.

it seems that the sound demon doesn't activate until i log in and
start a gnome session (which i can't do right now). does anyone know
how i can get the sound demon to start automatically on boot?
