Hi,

Is it a new router? Are you using a straight-through cable? You should
have the switch 1 light on and you should get IP address through DHCP.
Have you tried reseting maching using reset button (you need a paperclip
to get this).

Andrew.

The default gateway of the router is given in the book as 192.168.1.1
and I used this in my browser: http://192.168.1.1 but connection was
'refused'. (What is this address? Is it for the router itself?)
I suppose this refusal was related to the fact that the router has no
light on for the connection to the pc, P1. The WLAN light is on. I
suppose this means the router is prepared for wireless connection only.
I haven't the kit to use wireless so I have made connection by wire.
