[Herts] xxSQL on Linux with Crystal reports

Lugs,

We need a back-end SQL database to support web-based reporting and Crystal
reports.  Does anyone have experience of using MySQL, PostgresSQL or any
other FLOSS software as a back-end for Crystal Reports on Win 2000 ?

Database updates would be mainly batched, perhaps 3 or 4 times daily
featuring 2000 lines of new data per update with ad-hoc manual updates to
key tables.

Crystal reports would produce pre-specified reports on demand and allow
ad-hoc queries to this mini 'data-warehouse' [data shed?]

Project size:  The existing MS-Access (97) database is 300Mb after 3 years
so fairly small volumes.

I need some solid local experience.  Anyone built something comparable or
better?
