I went for the Hauppauge Nova-T PCI card. Working fine in Kaffeine under
Kubuntu Dapper. Watching TV is generally good, but does get some odd
glitches. I'm not yet sure if these are due to processor load, weak
signal (I'm using a passive aerial splitter) or some other factor.

I've even got the remote control working to some extent.

I'm currently experimenting with timed recordings. Ultimately I'd like
to be able to convert those to DVD format. The problems with recording
from Kaffeine are that the program has to be running and this can cause
some conflicts, e.g. stops sound working on BBC 'Listen Again' via
Realplayer in Firefox. I can work around that for now, but I will look
into the alternatives.
