[Herts] Audio Card---No mic i/p

Hi, I wonder where I got the name James!
Yes I am using alsa (I think)
I point to speaker icon in top bar and get "Microphone 100%"
Double click opens;
Volume control: CA0106 (alsa mixer)
OR
Volume control: mixer 00 (OSS Mixer)
In both the microphone is set to max and not muted.
