I've just been trying to install Kubuntu 8.10 on my old PC that the kids use. 
It failed due to a disk error. I suspect that my old IBM Deskstar (Deathstar) 
drive has finally given up the ghost. This PC only gets used for playing web 
games and a bit of surfing, so doesn't need much disk space.

I don't have spare cash for a new drive and I like to try and re-use old gear 
where possible, so does anyone have an old 10GB+ drive lying around? There 
must be millions of them out there somewhere along with all the even older 
drives we used to use. I've chucked a few recently, but they were 5GB or 
less.
