I've just been pointed to a "universal HDD to USB adapter". It looks prefect for being able to test any disk and copy off data without having to open up a machine to plug it into the SATA/IDA cables. http://tinylink.com/?5v7vq6af0z It supports both 2.5inch and 3.5 inch disks and SATA and IDE. Neil
