Following on from my succesful off loading of a number of UPS' please
find the collated info about them below:-
The UPS are Chloride Desk Power units. They are pretty small,
physically and power rating wise.
The units are the 500 model. They are about the size of a
large unix manual. They have a serial port, IEC in, 2 IEC UPS
protected outputs and 2 IEC unprotected outputs.

Theres a data sheet here:-

I had a look for more info on linux support as I have some larger 19"
rack mount chloride models here for myself.
I found these links:-
http://www.linux.com/feature/128099
which mentions this site
http://www.networkupstools.org/
which looks most promising but doesn't list chloride devices in the
supported list.
Then
http://connectivity.chloridepower.com/download_viewCategory.asp?c=1
and
http://www.chloridepower.com/en-gb/UK/Products--
Solutions/Connectivity/Software-for-UPS-monitoring-and-computer-
shutdown/
The trouble is the chloride software is available for linux but has
to be bought. I did find some stuff on RS232 interfaces but I havent
had a chance to look at it yet. The NUT site does suggest that it
might be possible to use generic drivers for some unlisted models of
UPS.
The battery that the UPS uses is a Panasonic UP-RW1232P1 12V. A
suitable replacement is the CSB HR1224WF2F1 from MDS Batteries
http://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/
A link to the battery itself
http://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/shop/productprofile.asp?Model=&ProductGrou
pID=1568&Brand=&DepartmentName=&DepartmentID=
or

The batteries are 15-99 inc VAT + delivery (4-99).
Apologies for line wrapping links.
Hope that helps.
