Hi,

Just thought I would post my musings on my new development machine.
Comments very welcome!

Requirements
------------

Development box primary OS Ubuntu running :-
Eclipse - Android Development
VirtualBox - For Hackintosh/iPhone Development, legacy XP, etc
One 24inch 1920*1200 to start, but others to follow..
High performance, with at least some future proofing, not a gaming or media
machine.
Not to noisy(!)

VirtualBox
Intel VT
Required for Hackintosh in VirtualBox.
Intel VT-IO
Did some reading on Intel VT-IO it is only supported on the locked intel
chips - as are the high spec onboard graphics, but as the support on
motherboards is patchy and VirtualBox has yet to fully support it I won't
worry about it!

Outline Specification
---------------------

Processor
Intel i5-2600K
K version for the slightly better graphics and potenial to overclock - not
sure if I ever will though - the quad core will just be "so" much faster
than anything to date! Although I wonder with processors at this level if
even considering overclocking is worth the heat/hassle! Voltages and
fiddling with various programs and Bios settings. Considering the i7?????

Cooler
Considering just using the stock Intel cooler. Other options if over
clocking would be

Motherboard
Z68 chip set
Asus or Gigabyte? Any thoughts?

Case
Antec or Fractal?

PSU

660-9

Memory
Big cooling fins, but 1.5v and at a great price.

DVD
Considered getting a DVD/blu-ray drive, but I don't think I will get the use
out of it! Think I will save the money and just get DVD

SSD
As I don't need a great amount of space.

rite-500mb-s-agt3-25sat3-120g
Not really sure of Cosair over ocz. OCZ, from what I read have a reputation
for speedy firmware updates. But perhaps they need them more? Who knows!

Graphics
Integral(!) to start with, until I have sorted out two more screens. Then
perhaps ATI 6850 to give a couple more screens and some gaming if really
needed

Regards
Nicolas
