Here is a note giving info about the Ext2 filesystem. I assume
that as ResierFS do not fragment (does that mean that the files
get shuffled around like rocks in a knapsack when there is
a shortage of contiguous free space ...), there is no need
for this with the ReiserFS.

Obviously, where there is reserved space, that space can be used
by root to clean up (by compressing files) a full FS, as the
space reported by df is pessimistic. Presumably if a ReiserFS
filesystem is full then someone must delete files, optionally
copying them to a different partition. This sounds like a job
that ought to be done before the need is acute.
