[Hudlug] Debian and display settings

I'm trying out Debian Sarge on an old laptop, and have a problem with 
monitor settings.  I did not have any specs at the time that I ran the 
set-up.  The default setting was vesa at 800x600.  I know it can do 
1024x768 in windows.

I've now downloaded specs from the Internet, and would like to change 
the display card and monitor settings, but I can't see where that is 
done.  I've tried running base-config again, but there's no display 
section there, as far as I can see.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?  Thanks
